Nearly 500 Ford kits sit here, and two nameplates do most of the work. Mustang is the single biggest line, and the F-Series pickups, F-100 through F-550 Super Duty, form the other pillar. Thunderbird, Bronco and Torino fill the rest. Each pillar has its own decision tree.

Mustang: body, back seat, shifter hole

Start with the body style, because coupe, convertible and fastback floors are molded separately. On 1965-1968 fastbacks, the next question is the rear seat: a fold-down seat car takes a 7-piece package, a fixed-seat fastback 4 pieces. Then the shifter. Many early kits are listed without a shifter hole, leaving the cut to you, while 1969-1973 applications come with the shifter cut made. Material follows the calendar: nylon and loop on early cars, cutpile later, and the 1982-1993 kits narrow to passenger area coverage. Mach 1 kits add pony insert colors matched to specific interiors.

F-Series: cab, tunnel and tank

Truck kits are won or lost under the seat. Regular cab, Super Cab and crew cab floors differ in length, so the cab call comes first. Tunnel height splits the listings again, with high tunnel variants for the bigger automatic trucks, and 4WD trucks add a transfer case boot to trim around. The earliest trucks carry a trap of their own: the 1953-1956 F-100 kit is listed for trucks without the in-cab gas tank, since the tank changes what the floor must clear. Cutpile is the truck material from the mid 1970s on.

The supporting cast

Thunderbird kits tell their story in piece counts: 1-piece sets for the 1955-1957 cars, split by column or floor shift, then 10-piece sets for 1958-1960 and 11-piece sets for 1961-1963. Early Bronco kits are 5-piece complete packages listed with a tailgate lock and by tank count, and the 1978-1979 Bronco moves to a 4-piece cutpile set. Torino covers 1968-1971, with column shift called out where it matters.

Whichever Ford you are flooring, consider the optional mass backing, a roughly 45 mil EVA layer that adds rigidity, holds the molded shape and adds sound and heat control. Plan the install honestly too: molded kits arrive oversized at the edges, so trimming and cutting seat belt and shifter openings, using the old carpet as a template, is normal finish work.
