Collection: ACC American Motors Trunk Mats & Carpet

Choose your vehicle application, then compare materials, coverage and options on each listing.

Shop American Motors foam replacement trunk mats for Javelin, Ambassador, Matador, Hornet, Rebel and American, all 1-piece, including the choice only Javelin owners face: the 1971-1974 Javelin Long foam mat or the Javelin Short, split by the car's production change.

Javelin Long or Javelin Short?

Start with the decision no other AMC model asks for. The 1971-1974 Javelin is listed twice, as a Long foam mat and as a Short foam mat, and the two are not interchangeable. The split follows a production change during the 1971 run: other sellers of Javelin trunk mats separate early 1971 cars from late 1971 cars under different part numbers for the same reason. Work out which side of the change your car was built on before ordering, using the old mat and the trunk floor as your evidence. The earlier cars are simpler: the 1968-1969 Javelin and the 1970 Javelin listing are one mat each.

What a Factory-Style Javelin Trunk Looked Like

AMC treated the trunk mat as equipment, not trim: factory literature for the 1971 Javelin lists a rubber trunk mat among the SST's standard features. The pattern those mats are known by is herringbone. Original-style rubber Javelin and AMX mats are sold die-cut to factory specifications for 1970 and 1971-1974 cars, with herringbone spare tire covers made from the same material for a floor-mounted spare. The ACC listings are foam mats rather than patterned rubber, so decide first whether your car needs the original-style mat or the foam replacement listed for it.

The Rest of the Range, Model by Model

Every other model gets its own floor. Ambassador runs two listings, 1967-1969 and 1970-1973. The Rebel appears for 1970 only. Hornet carries the longest span, 1970-1977. Matador splits at the body: the 1971-1973 cars in one listing, the 1974-1977 Matador 2DR Coupe in another. The line starts with the 1966-1968 American. Similar names across the AMC range do not share trunk floors, so order the exact model and years in the title.

One Piece of Foam, and What It Does Not Include

Each listing is a 1-piece foam trunk mat for the trunk floor. Side panels, boards and covers are separate pieces: trunk filler boards, for example, are sold on their own for the 1968-1970 AMX. Keep the old mat until the new one is trial-fitted, and check the floor beneath it for moisture and corrosion first. Sound AMC trunk floors are getting harder to find, and a fresh mat laid over a damp floor protects nothing.

The catalog separates a 1966–1968 American foam mat from 1967–1969 and 1970–1973 Ambassador applications. It also lists a 1970 Rebel, a 1970–1977 Hornet and a 1971–1973 Matador foam mat. Start with the exact model name and year range; the common foam construction does not establish interchangeable shapes.

Javelin owners can narrow the selection through the model category. Compare the listed coverage and any long/short qualifier before ordering. Keep boards, side pieces and spare tire coverage on a separate project list unless the selected package expressly supplies them.
