Most trunk mat pages make you pick a year and a pattern. This one makes you answer a question first: does your 1955-1956 Montclair still have its trunk boards? ACC cuts the 1955-1956 Burtex mat two ways. The with-boards kits run 6 pieces and include the fiberboard trunk panels, the same kind of cardboard board trim Ford and Mercury were already using in the early 1950s. The without-boards sets run 3 pieces and cover the floor only, for cars whose original boards survived. Count what is in your trunk before you order, because the piece count in the box follows that answer. And if the boards in your trunk are warped, water-stained or missing altogether, the 6-piece kit replaces them along with the mat in a single order.
Body style is the second split, not the first
Both board versions come in two cuts: 2DR Convertible and Hardtop/Sedan. A convertible trunk is not a hardtop trunk with the top down, and ACC does not treat it as one. So the order of decisions for a 1955-1956 car is body style first, boards second: four combinations, four different kits, and no universal 1955-1956 Montclair mat hiding in the middle.
Why Burtex, and how to spot a fake
Burtex is the woven, jute-backed material FoMoCo trunks wore when these cars were new, and it is the whole reason this page exists. In SAAC concours discussion of ACC Burtex mats, owners point out that ACC makes the correct mat in the OE material with the right contours, and that the fastest authenticity check is the back of the mat: if it is black on the bottom, it is not correct Burtex. Cheap printed vinyl sold as a trunk mat gives itself away the same way.
The two later listings break the pattern
The 1958 Montclair mat is Burtex again but a single 3-piece set, with no board option to sort out. The 1965 listing jumps a generation: it fits the 2DR Fastback only, and the material changes to Fleece, the grey pinseal-embossed PVC-faced material ACC lists for sixties trunks. If your car is a 1965 hardtop or sedan, this page does not have its mat, and no amount of trimming makes the fastback cut right.
