The Regal name covers two separate trunk programs, and the listings do not interchange. Cars from 1978-1981 use a single vinyl trunk mat cut for the earlier Regal. The 1984-1987 listings are Grand National specific, with three choices: a one-piece felt mat, a one-piece vinyl mat, and a nine-piece cutpile carpet kit with boards. Start with your model year, because a Grand National mat will not solve a 1979 Regal, and the early vinyl mat is not cut for the turbo cars.
The nine-piece kit is the GNX treatment
The grey nine-piece trunk kit was standard equipment in every GNX, and the same style of kit was offered by GM as an optional trunk kit for 1984-1987 Regals. Instead of one flat mat, the kit is built from nine cutpile pieces plus boards, so it covers the floor and dresses the side areas a one-piece mat leaves bare. Kirban Performance, the long-running Turbo Regal specialist, sells this same factory-style kit and points out the practical payoff: the panels protect your quarter panels from anything shifting around inside the trunk. For a Grand National that gets shown or judged, this is the listing that matches how the flagship car left the factory.
One-piece felt or vinyl for a Grand National floor
If your 1984-1987 Grand National only needs the trunk floor covered, the choice is material. The felt mat gives a soft, finished surface under the spare and jack, close in spirit to the simple factory trunk treatment. The vinyl mat gives a harder working surface that wipes clean after parts runs, tools, or show gear. Either way, coverage stops at the floor: a one-piece mat does not include side panels, spare tire covers, boards, or insulation, so know exactly what it leaves exposed before you order.
1978-1981 Regal is a separate application
Earlier Regal owners get one listing, a vinyl replacement trunk mat in a single piece. Do not let the Grand National parts in this collection blur the fitment, because the two generations share a nameplate and little else. Before any new mat goes in, pull the old one out and check the trunk floor for moisture and rust, since fresh material laid over a wet floor hides the problem instead of fixing it.
Grand National trunk mat versus nine-piece kit
The 1984–1987 Regal Grand National selection includes a Cutpile trunk mat kit with boards described as nine pieces. Separate felt and vinyl one-piece mats are also listed. Decide which existing sections and boards you plan to retain before comparing those purchasing scopes.
A 1978–1981 Regal vinyl one-piece mat has its own year range. Do not extend the Grand National description to that product. Review the selected package's included areas, inspect the exposed trunk floor and correct water entry before fitting replacements according to the supplied instructions.
