Collection: ACC American Motors Javelin Trunk Mats & Carpet

Choose your vehicle application, then compare materials, coverage and options on each listing.

Every ACC trunk mat in this collection is foam and one piece, so the real decision is length and year. Javelin mats split into 1968-1969, a 1970-only listing, and 1971-1974 cars that must choose between the Long and Short versions before ordering.

There are only four listings here, every one of them a foam replacement trunk mat in a single piece, so this page is not about materials or piece counts. It is a decision tree. The 1968-1969 cars share one mat, 1970 stands completely alone, and the 1971-1974 cars split into two versions, Long and Short, that cover the same model years. Get the year group right first, then, for the later cars, resolve the length question before you order.

Step one: pin down the year group

The first-generation split is simple. If your Javelin is a 1968 or 1969, order the mat listed for those two years and stop there. The 1970 car has its own listing and borrows nothing from its neighbours, which matters because 1970 sits between two better-known groups and is easy to mis-order by rounding it into 1968-1969 or 1971-1974. Check the title or registration year rather than guessing from styling, since these cars changed in detail year to year.

Step two, 1971-1974: Long or Short

This is the fork that decides whether a 1971-1974 order fits. ACC lists both a Long and a Short foam mat for exactly the same years, so the model year alone cannot pick the part. The difference lives in the car, not the calendar: measure the trunk floor front to back, or lay the mat you removed beside the car and compare its coverage before ordering. Other suppliers split these years too; Legendary Auto Interiors sells separate early and late production trunk mats just for 1971. If your original mat is long gone, measure the bare floor and match it to the version that covers it, rather than ordering the first 1971-1974 listing you see.

Fitting the foam mat

Whichever version your car takes, keep the removed mat until the new one is in place, because it is the best template for confirming coverage around the spare. Lift the spare out, clean the floor, and look hard for rust before the mat goes down; AMC used deep-dip rustproofing on these unibodies, yet Hemmings still flags the wheel wells and rear window sill as known corrosion areas on 1971-1974 cars. A fresh mat over a sound, dry floor finishes the trunk; over a damp one it just hides the evidence.

1971–1974 Javelin long and short trunk mats

The 1971–1974 Javelin foam range distinguishes Long and Short one-piece applications. Resolve that qualifier before choosing a replacement; a one-piece count does not identify which version your project needs. Compare the product details with the trunk layout and retain the old covering as a reference.

Earlier Javelin products separate 1968–1969 from 1970. Keep those year groups distinct from the later Long and Short choices. Check the selected package's coverage before adding boards or other trunk sections, and inspect the exposed floor for moisture before fitting new material.
