Three questions decide a Ford trunk: model, material, boards

Mustang is the deepest bench here, running from 1964-1968 molded vinyl mats split by coupe/convertible and fastback, through the 1969-1973 cars, to a 1994-2004 coupe cutpile mat. Thunderbird (1958-1966) is the other heavyweight, followed by Fairlane, Falcon and Galaxie for the full-size and compact cars of the 1950s and 1960s, Torino (including 1970-1971 mats cut for the gas filler), and the Skyliner retractable. Similar model names across years do not interchange: match the model, year band and body style in the title before anything else. Falcon splits its early-1960s mats by 2-door and 4-door sedan, and Fairlane runs from the mid-1950s cars into 1967.

What did your trunk leave the factory with?

Many listings offer the same car in two or three materials (a 1970 Mustang convertible is listed in vinyl, fleece and Burtex), so the real choice is correctness, not fit. Burtex is the OE-style material concours judges look for: SAAC judges note that ACC makes the correct Burtex mat, and that a black backing is the tell of a wrong one. Printed plaid vinyl is the other period signature, since plaid designs were especially popular in Ford, Mercury and Lincoln trunks of the 1950s through the 1970s. Fleece covers most 1950s applications, from Fairlane and Customline to the Sunliner convertible, and loop carpet serves the earliest cars. ACC also offers mass backing on these mats, an extra sound-deadening layer under the material that quiets the echo chamber over the rear axle.

Boards or no boards?

Thunderbird kits split on the trunk boards. With-boards kits run 9 to 15 pieces and renew the boards along with the mat; without-boards kits run 4 to 8 pieces and assume your boards are sound. The Skyliner retractable is its own case: its kits are 7-piece without boards, shaped around the folding top mechanism that takes over the trunk. Whichever route you choose, fix trunk leaks and correct any moisture damage first, and keep the original pieces until the replacement layout is confirmed in the car. Dry-fit the full layout before trimming or gluing anything down.
